The Calimete municipality's science system works intensively in support of the local government, organizations and companies in the territory and with an articulated management that guarantees harmonious and comprehensive development to create the municipality to which we aspire, with high productive results, capable of feeding its inhabitants and generate resources to sustain and expand social work, as well as guarantee services to the population, which uses knowledge and technology for this, in a conserved and sustainable environment and that is ready for the defense of the Revolution.

It works in the following strategic lines:

Application of Science and Technology in function of development

• ·Installation of a Model FBG-400 gasifier in the Amarilla Dryer. This gasifier consumes 480kg / h of rice husk and produces 960m3 of biogas / h, 189,000L of diesel are replaced or what is the same 189T of diesel. 442mw are generated per year, that is, 100% of diesel and 82% of the electricity of said installation are covered.
• ·Construction of 25 biodigesters. With the installation of these biodigesters, 1.5% of the polluting organic load emitted in the municipality is reduced. In addition, greater use is made of organic fertilizers from the effluent of the digester, while increasing the production of healthy food.
• ·Construction of a 150m3 covered lagoon type biodigester in Granja 26 de Julio belonging to TECNOAZUCAR Calimete. In this lagoon, 70m3 / day of biogas is generated, assuming 60% of methane in its composition, 42m3 / day of methane are captured, which amounts to 15,333 m3 / year, which is the same 15.32 ton / year. Therefore, it could be assumed that the system is capable of preventing the emission into the atmosphere of a greenhouse gas similar to that which would generate the emission of 321.72 tons of CO2 per year.
• ·7 integrated food and energy production units were created. (Currently 7 farms operate with integrated food and energy production, in which the biogas technology has been introduced, which is used in cooking food, in the lighting of some areas, in the installation of equipment and biogas motors, replacing them with those of diesel, likewise windmills and irrigation systems have been installed which has allowed an increase in productions, improvement of the quality of life of these people, a significant economic impact in harmony with the environment).
• ·Provision of specialized service (creation of a brigade for the construction of digesters). After intensive training with specialists from the EEPF Indio Hatuey, the brigade for the construction of digesters was created, consisting of 3 bricklayers and 5 assistants, which is still serving today.
• Income increase in the strategy scenarios (18.5million / year). Revenues in all areas of intervention of the strategy are monitored annually and compared with the previous year.
• ·Substitution of food, oil and fertilizer imports (57 million / year). Likewise, it is monitored by scenario, it is compared with respect to the previous year and agreements are made for its improvement.
