Calimete

Among the activities that were organized in 2017 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the town of Calimete, one of the proposals was the preparation and approval of the municipality's coat of arms, an initiative that was promoted by the municipal historian, which included the collaboration of plastic and computer arts instructors. It was approved by the Municipal Assembly at a meeting held on March 16 of the same year.

His design:

.The shield is shaped like an ogival buckler and is divided into three parts or barracks. At the top you can see a landscape with a rising sun in the background and a river, here the old hacienda of La Hanábana is represented, the place where the settlement of the territory began in the 16th century based on livestock activity. This place is associated with one of the most important events in its history, the stay in the place of the child José Martí in 1862. A parchment symbolizes the letter that he wrote to his mother Leonor Pérez Cabrera from here on October 23, which It is considered the oldest document that remains of him, and the verses that inspired these experiences.

Below on the left, there is an image of the Mausoleum of the Martyrs of Independence, where the remains of those who fought in the War rest. In the right barracks a landscape that embodies the sugarcane activity, the main line of development of the municipality characterized by a machete and a hat that also refers to our peasant tradition and the privilege of having the first National Hero of Labor in Cuba, the machetero Reinaldo Castro Yebra. Outside, at the bottom, two ears of rice come together where it marks the year 1867 when Calimete was founded. These ears symbolize another of the economic activities that typify the municipality.

In the upper part, a ribbon with the name of the municipality appears. The colors used in the design are mainly green, yellow and blue related to nature.
