Even though the numbers continue to show a decreasing trend in all the indicators related to Covid-19 in the largest of the Antilles, the Cuban Government continues the daily check-up of the country's epidemiological situation, under the premise of not neglecting a second, this frontal combat to the epidemic, which began at the beginning of the month of March and in which the final point has not yet been given.

As usual, late in the afternoon, at the Palacio de la Revolución, the meeting of the temporary working group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus, led by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, met on Wednesday. , and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.

In his information to the country's leadership, the Minister of Public Health, José Angel Portal Miranda, stressed that the number of people admitted for the attention and surveillance of the Covid-19 decreases daily. On the third day of the week the figure is 2,009, the lowest since April 22, when the 10 742 patients were exceeded.

Likewise, of the 1,974 diagnosed with the disease in Cuba, 166 remain hospitalized; of them, 164 with a stable clinical evolution. The headline stressed that "we are at the best time also in the number of serious and critical cases, with only two serious at the moment, who are in the Salvador Allende hospital, in the capital." Of the total confirmed cases, he said, 1,724 have already overcome the disease.

Regarding the local transmission events of Covid-19, he reiterated that 35 have been closed and nine remain active. Of the latter, only two reported new cases this Wednesday: four in Central Havana; and one in Turiguanó, in Ciego de Ávila.

The provinces with the highest incidence rates in the last 15 days continue to be Havana and Matanzas, which is why in this meeting they were once again accountable for their situation. As detailed by the governors, even though they present the highest figures in the country, their numbers also show a decreasing trend, as part of the effort being made to give the final blow to the epidemic.

On this occasion, the Governor of Camagüey, Yoseily Góngora López, also intervened through a videoconference and explained that the province has been without cases for 12 days. Of the 48 confirmed in the territory, only seven are admitted: three from Camaguey and four from Avila.

The Governor assured that no one is trusting in the province and research in the communities and constant monitoring of acute respiratory infections are maintained. The measures have not been dismantled, he stressed, to preserve that epidemiological stability.

In the midst of that battle, Camagüey has also had to face two severe weather events, one occurred in late April in the municipalities of Florida and Céspedes; and another in Esmeralda, on May 20 last. Góngora López affirmed that work is being done to, in the shortest possible time, compensate the damages that exceed 500 in both cases, with 11 total collapses in the three municipalities.

As is customary in this type of meeting, in which the organizations of the Central State Administration involved in the confrontation with Covid-19 count, the Minister of Communications, Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, reported on the measures applied by the sector to facilitate services in the difficult context imposed by the pandemic.

As detailed, has worked on building capacities for communication in hospitals and isolation centers; in the use of digital platforms for the payment of services; in enabling applications for screening and self-screening; as well as studies on mobility and georeferencing of Covid-19 cases.

"We have worked with the premise of guaranteeing the vitality of the telecommunications network, since there has been a substantial increase in telephone traffic and radio and television transmissions."

Among the decisions that have been made, he explained, the hours of the ETECSA and Correos de Cuba offices were limited; the Young Clubs are closed to the public; payment of telecommunication service invoices and accounts that were due in this period were extended; and the use of the Enzona and Transfermóvil platforms was encouraged.

He explained that in April 193 million pesos were paid, in CUP and CUC, through Transfermóvil, mainly in transfers between accounts and in telephone, electricity, water and gas bills; in addition to paying taxes to the National Tax Administration Office.

He pointed out that the most frequent approaches of the population are monitored, mainly related to the delivery of mail packages at home; mobile telephony and data consumption; congestion on the lines; delays in the installation of new services or in their transfers; the distribution of the press, especially towards the Isle of Youth; and the difficulties with electronic commerce, "in which we must continue working because it is here to stay and we have to finish solving its problems," he said.
