Given the difficult situation the world is going through due to the spread of Covid-19, the presence of health personnel from the Cuban province of Matanzas has increased and is now extending to more than 40 nations, said Ariel Pérez González, head of the department. Provincial Medical Collaboration.

Right now in 48 nations there are workers from the territory's Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), a number that grew by 18 after the request of several governments for Cuban medical assistance to deal with the new coronavirus.

A total of 1,219 Matanzas health workers are distributed in different regions of Latin America, Africa and for the first time in history on the European continent, as a sign of the strength of the Cuban health system.

Pérez González added that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has the highest number of collaborators, exceeding 800 as a reflection of the brotherly relations between both peoples.

It should be noted that with respect to the confrontation with Covid-19, almost 200 from Matanzas joined the International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics Henry Reeve in evidence of the state of readiness and commitment to the profession that the Matanzas have health workers.

Because Covid-19 affects the airways and is a communicable infectious disease, the greatest demands on staff came from specialists in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Graduates in Hygiene and Epidemiology and Nursing, he said.

The manager explained that four collaborators from the territory tested positive for Covid-19, 3 in Venezuela and one in Cape Verde, but all are progressing satisfactorily and even the collaborator on the African continent is already highly clinically ill.

According to Pérez González, the work of Cuban medicine in confronting Covid-19, both on the island and abroad, constitutes yet another example of the prestige and level reached by one of the key pillars promoted by the Cuban Revolution.
